Home Made Ornament Recipe

$USD0.00

This recipe is one of my favorite family activities.  Kids love it and it's really easy to do. Makes great personalized fifts for family, friends and teachers! Enjoy!

Ingredients:

2 cups of baking soda

1 cup of cornstarch

1 1/4 cups of cold water

In a sauce pan, mix dry ingredients, then add water.  Stir constantly until the mixture is the consistancy of wet instant mashed potatoes.  Line a baking tray with wax paper and pour mixture over it, cover with a damp cloth until it cools.  Then knead the dough like you would with bread.  Roll out and cut with cookie cutters.  Bake 250 degree oven for 17 minutes.  Let cool and paint as desired! You can use a clear acryllic spary paint, found at any craft store for about $4- to seal the ornament and give it a nice glossy look.

If you're in an extra creative mood, you can use a picture from a book or print it out.. place the picture over the dough and using a trim along the edges with a butter knife of thin tool, then with a pin or thin nail, gently press along the details of the picture, peel back the picture and bake so that when the dough dries the details will be 3D and easily painted.  I did this with characters like tigger for the kids in my family.
